Gear And Equipment For An Around The World Bicycle Trip

Before my trip even began people were asking questions about what equipment I intended to take, which brand tent and bicycle, how much stuff, what did it cost?
Let me clarify that I am not an equipment junkie or a techno-nerd. Also my experience is sorely lacking as to what might be the best. So I have done extensive research on websites, equipment reviews were read, and the brains of shop owners and long distance bikers were savagely picked clean.
The final decisions are mostly based on trying to find stuff that is comfortable, durable, and the most affordable. That last part about affordability is, you will find, a bit more than a little subjective!
Expect this section to bloom and expand as my experiences with the equipment unfolds. Each part of this collection of posts also has a comments section and I hope others will leave their own opinions and recommendations!

Bicycle - A huge decision seeing as how on an extended bike tour the ride choice you make is your transportation, your home, your closest friend for weeks, months, who knows how long. See which bicycle I have decided to ride around the world.
Panniers - These are the bags attached to the front and rear of a touring bike, your suitcases, your garage and storage for the duration of the trip. Durablility is a must. See which panniers I have decided to travel with.
